چکیده

Treatment with Abana (3 g/kg/day, p.o) for 3 weeks, reduced the blood pressure of unilaterally nephrectomized DOCAsalt-treated hypertensive rats. Similar reduction in blood pressure was also observed in the CdCh (1 mg/kg/day, i.p. for two weeks) treated hypertensive rats. The pressor response to adrenaline and noradrenaline (1 and 2 μg/kg) was reduced by chronic administration of Abana in these hypertensive animals. However, Abana (3 g/kg/day, p.o) administered to normotensive female albino rats for 3 weeks did not alter the mean blood pressure and the pressor response to adrenaline and noradrenaline (1 and 2 μg/kg). The vascular reactivity to noradrenaline in isolated aortic strip and portal vein was also reduced by the chronic administration of Abana in the hypertensive rats. It is concluded that the antihypertensive effect of Abana might be due to its alteration of cation transport into the cell.

Double blind comparative trial of Abana and methyldopa for monotherapy of hypertension in Indian patients.

Abana is a herbomineral medicinal preparation with a property of down-regulation of beta-adrenergic receptors. A double-blind, parallel group study was conducted in 43 Indian men and women suffering from hypertension to evaluate the antihypertensive effect of Abana and compare it with that of methyldopa (M-DOPA). Twenty-one patients received 800 mg tds of Abana and 22 patients received 250 mg t...

Evaluation of vascular effects of aqueous Crocus sativus petals’ extract in the hypertensive rats

Background and Aim: Crocus sativus (C. sativus) petals attenuates smooth muscle tension and blood pressure in control animals. However the antihypertensive effect and its mechanisms haven’t been recognized. This study investigates the antihypertensive effects of C. sativus petals’ aqueous extract in hypertensive rats and also responses of the rat isolated perfused mesenteric bed. Materials and...

The Effect of Chronic Administration of Safranal on Systolic Blood Pressure in Rats

Safranal, the main component of Crocus sativus essential oil, exhibits different pharmacological activities. In this study, the effects of safranal, on blood pressure of normotensive and desoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA) - salt induced hypertensive rats in chronic administration were investigated. Three doses of safranal (1, 2 and 4 mg/kg/day) and spironolactone (50 mg/kg/day) were administra...

Abana Enhances the Blood Pressure Lowering Effect of Propranolol in Mild to Moderate Hypertension

Fifty-four mild to moderate cases of essential hypertension were selected for a clinical trial with Abana along with conventional therapy. A careful monitoring was done to demonstrate the significance of combined therapy. Better results were obtained when Abana was given along with propranolol. It can be concluded that Abana reduces the dose of concomitant conventional therapy. Abana did not pr...

Protective Effect of Abana® , a Poly-herbal Formulation, on Isoproterenol-induced Myocardial Infarction in Rats

Methods: The effect of Abana pretreatment (75 mg /100 g ) for a period of 60 days on isoproterenol (20 mg/100 g s.c. twice at an interval of 24 hrs) induced lipid peroxidation was studied in rats. Marker enzymes levels such as creatine kinase, lactate dehydrogenase, alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase were assessed in serum and heart homogenate. Glutathione content and lipid peroxid...
